The dispute started in 2012 when the Adjumani district council gazetted the area as East Madi Game Reserve, a move which was opposed by authorities in Amuru district, who equally claimed rights over the same land. It has taken twists and turns over the years, resulting in loss of lives and property.
According to the North Kigezi Diocesan Mission Coordinator, Rev. Amos Katushabe, this year’s pilgrims include 20 males and 44 females. He says that the youngest pilgrim is Abedi Nowamani from Burombe Ruhinda aged 14 years old while the eldest is Benon Rutayoba who is 77 years old from Nyamifura Church of Uganda.
Local governments showed the highest satisfaction with employees with disabilities at 90 per cent while the private sector satisfaction stands at 77 per cent, according to Dr Patrick Ojok, the Lead Consultant in the Baseline Survey.
All the eight districts of Karamoja have boundary conflicts. Kotido and Abim have locked horns over Lokililing and Moru-Alokwangat Parishes while Kotido and Kaabong also have a disputed boundary at Lolelia in Kacheri Sub County. Napak district is at loggerheads with Katakwi, Abim and Moroto, some of which have culminated into violence.
In a meeting of NRM leaders and supporters on Thursday, in Yumbe, the leaders unanimously resolved that they will not travel to Nebbi to meet the President. They want the President to meet them separately in Yumbe.
