Uganda is planning to vaccinate 22 million people in a phased manner using the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. The country has so received 964,000 vaccines some of which, according to the health ministry, have already been transported to all designated facilities by the National Medical Stores.
Agule County MP Francis Mukula had asked Kalyegira to explain the funding gaps that the authority is experiencing. In his explanation, Kalyegira pointed out that the authority only has an annual budget of 6.1 billion Shillings, but expects to increase that to 7.25 billion Shillings in the next financial year 2021/2022 following the listing of one telecom company.
Dr Patrick Odong Olwedo, the Amuru District Health Officer says that 486 health workers registered for the vaccines include nurses, midwives, medical officers and doctors working in the various health facilities in the district both privately and government-owned.
