In separate petitions that were later consolidated by the court, two petitioners, Patricia Magara and Alex Nathan Sserwanga challenged the victory of Hassan Kirumira of the National Unity Platform-NUP, citing election irregularities. They asked the court to cancel the election and order fresh ones. Kirumira won the race with 21,197 votes ahead of Magara who had 8,132 votes.

George Ocwic, an eyewitness, says the deceased was punishing his teenage daughter for the alleged theft of the money.
According to Ocwic, the suspect intervened to save his sister and instead picked timber, which he used to strike his father on the forehead killing him instantly.
“Young girls one aged about 8 years and another about 4 years have been rescued alive from the rubble and referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital. However, the total number of dead bodies so far recovered is three,” Nakasita said.
