Many traders are attending to buyers without wearing face masks and those who have the masks are not wearing them appropriately. Streets and roads in town are also congested with motorists driving and riding close to each other, some carrying more passengers than permitted.
Kiira Motors Corporation says it will deliver 10 buses by end of this year, a paltry one percent of the more than 1000 buses the state owned corporation had promised to deliver by end of this year.
Some of the vendors and traders have raised complaints of double allocation of space, mismatches between names and allocated stall numbers, and missing names among others. They are also accusing some leaders of manipulating the process.
Samalie Namukose, the Assistant Commissioner for Nutrition in the Health Ministry, says that the available regulations are weak and obsolete. She says that with the influx of breast milk substitutes, there is need for tougher laws to dissuade manufacturers and distributors from dumping their products on the Ugandan market.
