The trio was picked up on Tuesday under the supervision of Brig. General Henry Isoke, the head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit following an impromptu visit by the State Minister for Economic Monitoring, Peter Ogwang. The minister was accompanied by a team of officials from the National Building Review Board-NBRB, State House Anti-Corruption Unit, and police officers to inspect certain projects in the municipality.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga police spokesperson, says that the affected people reported the theft at Otuke Central Police Station prompting the UPDF, ASTU, and police from Abim district to launch an operation to recover the animals.

Some of the affected businesses included those involved in photography, selling of flowers and tags, drinks and snacks, gifts, and masks among others. While some of the vendors tried reaching out to customers by running around the campus, security personnel drove them away and confiscated their merchandise.
