The Ag. Chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission-UHRC Dr. Katebalirwe Amooti Wa Irumba, said that the status of press freedom in the country has generally improved but noted that during the 2021 electoral period and the COVID 19 lockdown, press freedom was challenged.
Archbishop Kazimba commended the Administration of Madi W. Nile Diocese for the ongoing works which he said is funded by friends of the Church of Uganda Bishops as part of the activities to mark 60 years of the existence of Church of Uganda.
The probe team led by Vice-chairperson of the Committee Agnes Taaka Wejulu interacted with former Presidential candidates including, Democratic Party’s Norbert Mao , Alliance for National Transformation (ANT)’s Mugisha Muntu, and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Presidential candidate Patrick Amuriat Oboi.
John Bosco Tembo, a research associate at the Foundation of Human Rights Initiative recently met the assaulted victims to document their ordeal. According to Tembo, they intervened to help the affected journalists to get justice.
