Candidates contesting for positions in Lower Local Council are required to pay 20,000 Shillings, those vying for district Council positions pay 50,000 Shillings, Municipal Councilors pay 50,000 Shillings while Members of Parliament pay three million Shillings for their nomination.
In a letter signed by EC Chairperson, Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, Michael Akol was disqualified on December 22 following a petition by the incumbent MP Albert Lokoru, who noted that Akol does not have the required qualifications for Member of Parliament.

The ruling party held primary elections in Moroto on Monday to choose a candidate for the district Woman Parliamentary seat which fell vacant on February 14 following the death of Annie Logiel. The primary polls, pitting former Member of Parliament Margaret Iriama and Logiels niece, Stella Atyang, appear to have created rifts in the party.
Joyce Achan, the Moroto District Electoral Commission Registrar, declared Atyang nominated a few minutes to midday after fulfilling all the requirements.
