Kazibwe defeated his closest rival Ssebana Kizito With 3,804 votes against Kizito's 3,170 votes according to partial results read out by the NRM electoral team at the tally centre, Naguru Infant Primary school following elections held on Friday. Ahmed Bogere Masembe got a paltry 104 votes in the same race.
A section of NRM members from Lwabenge sub county have put up stiff resistance during the distribution of bicycles in that area, arguing that some village chairpersons are completely inactive with no relevance to mobilization.
During the counting of the votes, Bireije's side which was still in the lead developed cold feet when Achaye's side took the lead, ending up causing chaos.
At Nabweru South Cell One, the polling officer, Nasir Mwanje, ordered for the closure of the polling station allowing only voters that appear in the register to access the area.
By 11 am, most of the polling stations visited by URN such as Luvuuma, St Paul, Katwe two, Katabira zones and others had only the presiding officers and candidates agents, while at other polling stations there were no candidates’ agents.
“People came in early but materials were delayed, but also as people knew that the president allowed everyone to vote, they never wanted to be cross checked but to vote, and this created chaos in some areas” she said.
The turn up is raising although at most polling stations in Kikoni, Makerere, Bwaise and Kawempe it is mostly youth groups moving with candidates posters and ply cards while chanting their names and urging people to turn up and vote.
