Kadaga’s journey at the helm of the legislature came to an end on Monday when she was defeated by her former deputy Jacob Oulanyah. Oulanyah who was fronted by the NRM CEC polled 310 votes while Kadaga who chose to contest as an independent candidate polled 197 votes.
Trouble started after the Makindye councillor Zaharah Luyurika was declared the winner of the vote that was cast by 41 councillors belonging to NUP. Luyurika got 12 votes against his closest challenger Hakim Kiiza who got 10 votes.
The outgoing Government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa has petitioned the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to discipline former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga for going against the party.
