Dominic Bwayo, the headteacher of Bumwalye primary school, says that he convinced the mudslide victims to give space to the learners who had missed a lot due to the closure of schools for two years.
Tappy Namulondo the Bududa Chief Administrative Officer district, they have requested the victims to vacate, but they have refused until they are relocated or compensated. According to Namulondo, the toilets are filled up and need to be emptied and classrooms renovated.
Amina Namwano, a mother of 10 and a resident of Busai Parish said the government should just come and see what people are going through instead of telling them to relocate.
The mudslides, which occurred yesterday at 10 pm got most of them in their houses only to see mud flowing around and within their houses forcing them to run from their homes.
Agness Nandutu, the Bududa woman MP and state minister for Karamoja affairs said resettling the people of Bududa in faraway places will not help them because they are used to their fertile areas where they can practice farming, adding that people were relocated to new environments where their productive farming skills and culture could not be applied like Kiryandongo and Bunambutye.
Joseph Nasaba, the LC I Chairperson of Nakhatore village, says that there are no human casualties. He says that he heard land sliding downwards and later confirmed mudslides had hit the area. He has asked the government to come to their rescue because they have lost all their crops.
Emmanuel Wamoto, a resident of Sume Village and survivor of the 2018 landslides, says they spend sleepless nights since heavy rains started for fear of fresh landslides and floods.
