Nabwire and her five other family members, all residents of Bukamba village, in Idudi town council ate supper together on Monday but failed to move out of their house in the morning raising suspicion from the neighbors.
Sodo was driving with his navigator Derrick Lubambula when their Mitsubishi EVO9 Registration number UAV 889Z overturned several times and crashed in the neighboring garden in Butapa village in Buyanga sub-county in Bugweri district on Saturday morning.
Prior to the mob action against them, the suspects led by Tony Mukasa handed over purported magic sticks to three residents with promises of making miracle money under the palm of their hands. They then claimed the sticks had dissolved into their victims' bodies and could cause death.
The deceased has been identified as Daniel Agama, a mentally impaired resident of Nakamini village, in Namalemba sub-county, Bugweri district. The suspect, whose particulars have been concealed for the purposes of aiding investigations, was guarding Naigombwa Seed Secondary School at the time of the incident.
It is said that about 532 million tonnes of rare earth elements have been identified in an area stretching a distance of 40-kilometres from the Igombe and Makuutu in Bugweri, Nakigo and Bulamagi in Iganga district and Imanyiro and Buwaaya sub-counties in Mayuge district. This area has almost 5000 households.
Susan Mpata, the Bwigula ward parish councilor says that they have registered increased cases of animal theft in the area and it is incumbent upon police authorities to increase security deployment within the area.
Mulawa Waiswa, a resident within the area says that the crash has resulted into panic within their community and most of the parents have resolved to locking up their children inside the houses, as a means of deterring them from being exposed to the accident scene.
