The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has presented Ugandaâ€™s sole gold medal winner at the 2012 London Olympics with a special medal in recognition of his achievement. State Minister for Sports Charles Bakkabulindi presented the medal to Stephen Kiprotich on behalf of the IOC during a ceremony that took place at the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) offices in Lugogo on Friday night.
At least three people have been killed by mudslides that swept through four villages in Kaabong district on Thursday. The victims died on the spot when mudslides triggered by incessant rains hit Piire village located on the slopes of Morungole and Lwakaramoi hills in Kamion Sub County.
The latest floods in Kasese district are blamed on the wild fire that burnt a section of the Rwenzori Mountains last year. Joseph Katswera, the Kasese district natural resources officer, says that fire burnt several forest cover that had been holding water during the rainy season and preventing soil erosion. He says that when the canopies which were acting as catchment areas were burnt, there were no barriers to stop the heavy and fast running water.

Seven officials of Kyambogo University Council are still in police custody a day after they were arrested while in a meeting. The university was on Friday afternoon thrown into panic as detectives from the Inspectorate of Government arrested the entire membership of the Council for alleged abuse of office.
