The Health Ministry will in the financial year 2017/2018 recruit 3,715 Community Health Workers CHWs, Prof. Anthony Mbonye, the Director General of Health Services has said. Mbonye, the community health workers will replace Village Health Teams VHTs in health service provision in communities.

Uganda adopted the VHT strategy in 2001 as a bridge in health service delivery between community and health facilities. Police in Mitooma district have arrested a teacher attached to Nyakahita Primary school in Mutaara Sub County for alleged defilement. John Bosco Arinaitwe was picked up this week after primary seven leaver at Nyakahita primary school reported to police that she was carrying his child. The victim is aged 14 years.
