Parliament Moves to Scrap Idle and Disorderly Offence penal code act 1 1

Section 167 of the Penal Code Act criminalises wandering persons, those gambling for cash or prostituting as being idle and disorderly. If convicted by court, they, if prostitutes or involved in soliciting for immoral purpose, face a maximum seven years imprisonment while other aspects of the offence attract three months in jail or 3,000 Shillings in fine or both.

Businessmen in Kabarole and the neighbouring districts are considering setting up small scale industries after delays by the Uganda Investment Authority UIA to construct an industrial park. The businessmen through their association have secured 70 acres of land at Butebe, three kilometres outside Fort Portal town, where small scale businesses such as bakeries, metal fabrication, tailoring, textile, rice mils, soap making and garments and juice processing will be established.

Uganda Prisons Transfers Inmates over Congestion kigo prison

Uganda Radio Network has learnt that two weeks ago over 100 prisoners were moved from Luzira Maximum Prison in Kampala to prison facilities in Eastern Uganda to decongest the countrys main prison. However, Uganda Prisons spokesperson, Frank Baine says the exercise affects all prison facilities across the country. The number of prisoners has increased from 40,500 in 2014 to over 55,000 today.
