David Bbaale Mukasa emerged the best candidate following interviews conducted by Kalungu District Service Commission early this year. Although the DSC confirmed Mukasas appointment, Davis Dembe Beyeza, the then Kalungu Chief Administrative officer CAO declined to give Mukasa his appointment letter. Yesterday, August 15, Mukasa received his appointment letter as Kalungu district Education Officer.

The Forum for Democratic Change FDC Secretary General, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, says he will thwart any attempts to skew party presidential elections in favour of any of the candidates in the race. The visitation committee investigating causes of strikes at Makerere University is to release its final report in a weeks time, Dr. Abel Rwendeire, the committee chairperson has said. The Rwendeire Committee commenced its work in November last year following the closure of the university at the height of strikes by staff and students. The staff laid down tools over unpaid incentives while students protested lecturers boycott of lectures.
Early this year, the Ministry of Public Service issued guidelines banning sleeveless, transparent and tight clothing for non-uniformed officers in Public Service. Public Service Permanent Secretary Catherine Bitarakwate Musingwiire said that the guidelines were in line with the Public Service Standing Orders.
Government has finally commenced the verification of land owners in Amuru Sugar Works Project area in Amuru district. The Sugar works project is a joint venture between Madhvani Group of Companies and the government of Uganda. The project has stalled for at least eight years due to a bitter ownership dispute with locals who claim the area as customary land.
