The 2016, Rwendeire Visitation Committee report to Makerere University recommend that all Halls of Residence require urgent attention for rehabilitation. The residences at Buyana need to be completely overhauled to meet the basic requirements for accommodation.
This was disclosed by Kampala Capital City Authority KCCA Director for Education, Juliet Namuddu during a meeting with primary school head teachers at Nakasero Primary School on Thursday evening.
The Chair of UNEB, Prof Mary Okwakol, while releasing the 2018 Primary Leaving Examinations PLE in Kampala, said while anti-exam cheating measures are largely working, the new trend is for teachers to connive and give answers to candidates.
Uganda National Examinations Board UNEB released the results today, showing boys out-performing girls. Overall, there were over 60,000 first grades with significant numbers coming from Wakiso and Kampala districts.
A 2016 Ministry Education Abstract indicates that vocational schools in Uganda have up to 63285 students with 5191 instructors, with 2996 instructors in government Institutions. The Abstract also indicated that only a handful of the instructors are fully equipped with basic skills in vocational training.
Courses after P.7 include landscaping, cleaning services, carpentry and joinery, cabinet making, painting and decorating, bricklaying, industrial control, electrical installations, plumbing and heating, amongst others.
Namuwaya was awarded alongside the newly-crowned Miss World Africa 2018, Quinn Abenakyo, for her achievement and for carrying Makerere University flag high. Abenakyo graduated with a second class upper bachelors degree in Business Computing. In an interview with URN, Abenakyo said it was an honor graduating from the best university in the country and the region.
Speaking at the release of the 2018 Primary Leaving Examinations PLE results in Kampala Janet, also the First Lady, says the guidelines against increasing of fees and imposition of unwarranted charges by schools remain applicable.
The examination body says in some schools in Bundibugyo district candidates had to part with up to 50,000 Shillings to facilitate the examination malpractice. The affected schools include Bundimulinga Primary School, Bupandi Primary School, Bupomboli Primary School, Kihoko Primary School, Green Cycle Primary School, Bundikahungu Primary School and Clevers Origin, among others.
The results indicate that there was an improvement in scores for the English language examination, Social studies and Science for the second year running. Mathematics remained poorly done with a failure rate of 23 percent, among the candidates.
