IUIU Reconsiders Staff Suspension, Lays Strategy for Reopening 2 1

The University had indefinitely suspended contracts of both teaching and non-teaching staff and temporarily closed all its campuses. The decision was based on a review of the institution's finances which established that the University did not have sufficient funds to keep their payrolls and meet other financial obligations.

In the districts of Pallisa, Bududa, Busia, and Mbale, a number of parents say that it is overwhelming for the government to task parents who are struggling to get food to purchase or even photocopying the learning materials. They add that the interventions are impractical in an area that does not have a constant power supply, and where people can hardly afford to sustain power bills, smartphones and internet data.

Over 20,000 Learners in Bududa Miss Self Study Materials 1

Vicente Matanda, the Bududa Senior Education Officer, says they received 34,921 materials for primary learners yet they have 52,000 pupils and 561 copies for secondary school learners against an enrollment of 8000. This means more than 24,518 learners have missed the study materials.
