According to Okabe, the election was a total sham as it was conducted without consideration of democratic principles of the party. He claims that the NRM voters in the constituency were inflated with ghost voters.

Akiror also faults the district NRM chairperson for allegedly siding with her rivals to ferry nonmembers to vote for them. She says that the District Chairperson ignored the guidelines issued by their National Party Chairperson on the elections where voters from seven polling stations in her strongholds were blocked from voting.
