The former Chief of Defence Forces survived an assassination attempt on 1st June, along Kisoto road in Kisaasi, a Kampala Suburb when gun wielding men severally shot at his car. The shooting claimed the life of Katumba’s daughter, Brenda Nantongo and his driver Haruna Kayondo.

The 74-year-old member of the National Historical Forum could hardly move on his own and depended on the support from close friends and relatives such as Geoffrey Ekanya, the Tororo County North Member of parliament and his Tororo county South counterpart, Fredrick Angura when he appeared at parliament.
Sources at the Church of Uganda Provincial Secretariat told our reporter that the late Bishop Magezi had been first admitted in Mbarara hospital two weeks ago and later transfered to Mulago National Referral Hospital where he succumbed to Covid-19.
