The seven suspected militiamen, four of them dressed in the DRC military uniform, placed several fishermen at gunpoint and ordered them to surrender their fishing gear. After executing their mission, they crossed to the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to Ethien Arua, one of the affected fishermen.
According to Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, crime intelligence received information about new criminal gang groups including Kibadia operating in Lusaze and Lugala areas, and another group identified as Kisangani aka Kigali that has been terrorizing Katwe and Kisenyi-Mengo areas in the past weeks.
The Palabek Refugee Welfare Council III Chairperson John Pascal says they have scrutinized the suspects who are indeed registered asylum seekers but investigations are ongoing in regards to their alleged sneaking into the country illegally.
Reports indicate that the gunmen believed to be coming from Owiny-Kibul and Ingiji in the Central Equatorial State of South Sudan have in the past weeks made separate incursions into Uganda and chased farmers from their gardens in the border areas of Nyimur in Lamwo district.
