The court martial presided over by Col. Gabriel Wamala heard that on the 14th February 2022 the accused UPDF soldier allegedly shot a civilian identified as Emmanuel Kica a resident of Arogo Village, Kal parish in Madi Opei Town Council.
Michael Longole, the Mt. Moroto region police spokesperson, says that the incident happened around 9:00 pm on Sunday after the joint security team comprising the police and UPDF officers on night patrol within Acholi inn found the warrior trying to sneak into a bar with an SMG rifle and five rounds of ammunition.
Speaking on behalf of security agencies, Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, said that the IED that damaged two vehicles in Dr. Zeija’s motorcade was built using improvised materials such as aluminium, nails, and broken bottles and plastics.
The deceased has been identified as Robert Luyima, 35, a resident of Matale village, in Kalisizo town council. It is said that Luyima had been arrested for whipping his nephew who messed up a house that was left in order.
Major Isaac Oware, the UPDF 3rd Division spokesperson confirmed the escape of the suspects but hastened to add that some have since been rearrested. He said they are investigating to establish whether there was foul play in their escape.
The most affected people are from Wanseko, Katanga, Masaka landing sites in Kigwera Sub- County and Kawaibanda, Butiaba, Boma, Kigangaizi, Tugombili and Walukuba. Others are from Bugoigo, Kamagongoro, Kigungu, Serule, Piida, Waisoki, Triangle and Magali in Butiaba sub-county, Kabolwa and Kigoya landing sites in Buliisa sub-county.
Betty Nesihwe, the Butaleja District Senior Probation Officer told URN in an interview last month that several defilement cases are resolved by local council village leaders in connivance with the parents who want money and bride price.
He also said police is hunting for the minor’s father who is on the run and all other people who were involved in the marriage to have them aligned in Courts of law.
