In 2011, the Ministry of Works and Transport through a donation worth 1.9billion shillings from the Lake Victoria Environment Management Project-LAVEMP, undertook to construct a permanent market in Lukaya town council for hundreds of roadside vendors who operate from the area.
Dr Alfred Kinyera, the Kitgum District Veterinary Officer said that the disease was first reported on January 13th after death of four cattle on separate days.
Lucy Acayo, a poultry farmer in Locken village who lost over 70 chickens to the disease, says the high mortality rate has severely impacted her only source of livelihood since selling chicken is her major source of income.
