Dr. Mathias Wabwire Panyako, the Busia District health officer says that the hospital registers over 120 new diabetes cases and at least two deaths monthly. Wabwire says that this is more than double the number of cases they registered previously
Construction of the 300 Million Shillings maternity ward started in July 2020 and was supposed to end by July 2021. It was funded by the Ministry of Health under maternal health and child care services.

More than 20 health workers in Busia district have tested positive for COVID-19 in Busia district. Six of the affected health workers are from Masafu General Hospital, twelve-12 from Buteba health center III and two from Busia health center IV among others.
