The Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi has treated 102 cancer patients since the breakdown of the radiotherapy machine at the Uganda Cancer Institute-Mulago. The treatment at Agha Khan University Hospital in Kenya would have cost cost close to 700 million Shillings. However, the patients were not charged under the partnership.
The seven roomed facility comprises of offices, a laboratory, three isolation rooms each capable of admitting six patients, nursing station, clinical care area and a clinical research site. The facility has also been fenced to prevent Ebola or Marburg patients from getting into contact with the community or other patients at the hospital. .
Dr. Peter Mukobi, the Medical Director Hoima Regional Referral Hospital wasnt available for comment as he was said to be away in Kampala for a week long induction meeting at the Health Ministry headquarters.
