Presenting a report to Parliament on the state of health service delivery in the country, the Minister of Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, the rehabilitation works at the hospital is currently at 91%. Upon completion, the hospital will provide specialized services including organ transplant (kidney, cornea, liver, bone marrow, and stem cell) and neuro-spinal surgery among others.
The minister said that the island and mountainous districts like Buvuma, Kalangala, Namayingo, Mayuge and Namisindwa deserve special attention because of their geographical location. She explained that the ministry needs 1.3 trillion Shillings to construct 41 hospitals in the listed districts. She was presenting a report on the state of health service delivery in Uganda.
Members of Parliament approved the guarantee after rejecting a minority report which had been presented by Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze, to block the funding. In support of the Minority report, Butambala County MP Muwanga Kivumbi said that the cost of constructing the hospital is exaggerated.
