According to statistics from January to December 2020 from the office of the district probation officer 4,034 girls below 17 years visited a hospital for antenatal care since the closure of schools in March.
Even at its level as a general hospital now, the facility is often overcrowded with bed occupancy now at more than 110 per cent. Dr Emmanuel Batibwe, the Executive Director says that although the hospital has over the years transformed from a small facility at the level of Health Center II, they have remained squeezed on a five-acre piece of land donated by the Kampala Capital City Authority.
The deceased has been identified as Jonathan Ssemwogere, a resident of Kyassonko village, Busubi parish, Kisekka sub-county. The incident happened today leaving the community members shocked.
As part of the operations, 14 pharmacies, 4 clinics, three-drug shops, and two general merchandise shops were closed and drugs impounded. The drugs were got during a 12-day enforcement operation after NDA was tipped off that some pharmacies and drug shops were operating without valid licenses.

Dr Hafsa Lukwata, the assistant commissioner in charge of mental health at the Ministry of Health says that they have received many reports of persons who have attempted to take their own lives due to COVID-19. However, she adds that the data is not conclusive and may not give a complete picture of what the situation looks like in the country.

The intervention at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital is part of the timely emergency response and delivery of medicines and medical supplies to all government health facilities, according the Ministry of Health. The Hospital has been relying on vehicles for delivery of oxygen but the demand in hospital has recently overwhelmed the facility. The vehicles sometimes take two days to return with the oxygen.
