Abias Rwamwiri, the Spokesperson of the National Drug Authority, says that during their operation on unlicensed drug shops, they found Akankwasa with a forged license in the name of God’s Will drugshop in Mbarara City. She later led them to Sande and Bob as the source of all kinds of forged documents in the region.
The committee was meeting energy and soft drink producers who were tasked to explain misleading advertisements about the capacity of their products to arouse sexual enhancement, heal diseases like cancer, pressure and diabetes among others.
According to the drug authority, the beverage which is sold as a sex enhancing drink for men was found to be laced with Sildenafil Citrate, a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction, ulcers and pulmonary hypertension
As part of the operations, 14 pharmacies, 4 clinics, three-drug shops, and two general merchandise shops were closed and drugs impounded. The drugs were got during a 12-day enforcement operation after NDA was tipped off that some pharmacies and drug shops were operating without valid licenses.
According to the researchers, the time needed to carry out trials to get approvals is too long given the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic. They argue herbs are part and partial of the African lifestyle and are safe.
