The disagreement stemmed from a recent impromptu visit by municipal leaders which found fecal matter littered behind most of the buildings and drainage systems. Sewerage was flowing directly from buildings into open drainage channels while hotels were found operating in unhygienic conditions.
Moses Akampurira, another concerned resident wants Government to ensure that each municipality has public toilets so that people are not inconvenienced.
Johnson Asiimwe, a resident of Kabale Municipal quarters is concerned that the problem remains unattended to despite a series of complaints lodged at the Corporation’s area branch. He maintains that the continued spill of human waste into the river is a manifestation that National water has failed to execute its mandate.
An acute shortage of water in Kabale Municipality is now into a second week with local residents accusing National Water and Sewerage Corporation—NWSC of doing little to address the problem.
A water shortage has hit Southern Division in Kabale Municipality after Nyangorogoro Gravity Flow Scheme stopped distributing water to schools and people’s homes. At least 200 families and eight schools with a population of over 3,000 students are affected by the break-down of the water scheme, with many of them resorting to using unclean stream water.
