According to legislators the camp, where they are now, is congested with 2,680 persons recorded from 81 households. They argue that the camp is posing a serious health risk to both the internal and external population after 126 persons tested positive for COVID-19.
Last month, more than 650 refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC fleeing the war in the eastern part of their country entered Bundibugyo District through Rwamabale Sub County in Ntoroko district.

Bundibugyo has set up a nutrition unit to address severe malnutrition among children in the district. The district has the highest number of children below 5 years with stunted growth in the Rwenzori region. In a report released last year by the Rwenzori Think Tank on food security, there are more than 600 children suffering from malnutrition.
According to the report by Rwenzori Network for Sanitation, in some schools there is one toilet shared by Girls and Boys. The report also states that absenteeism among girls is high especially when they approach their menstruation cycle, since they have anywhere to change or dispose sanitary pads.
