Richard Atubi and Paul Opio, teachers of various schools in the district backed their representative Okiria and informed the minister that the meager salaries which always delays makes their families unable to purchase even a mere coffin. Hellen Catherine Atim said even their clans are too poor to arrange a decent burial when a teacher dies.

Since January this year, the UPDF Fisheries Protection Unit has intensified its operations against illegal fishing on Lake Kyoga. The operations have left thousands of people including children of school going age redundant.

Serere Secondary School has suspended three students accused of indiscipline and threatening the stability of the school by protesting payment of lunch fees.
