The university was closed last month following a row between Bishop Dr Hamlet Mbabazi Kabushenga, the Founder and Chancellor of the university against the administrators led by the director, Honest Wilkins Natukwasa.
“It is imperative that there is one point of command of the affairs of the applicant until this court determines the issues of resignation and appointments of its directors lest it is plugged into chaos. I, therefore, find that the applicant has proved that it will suffer irreparable injury if the application is not granted. Having found that all the elements have been proved I don’t need to look into the balance of convenience”, he adds.
Denis Ayebare, the Guild Speaker says that the closure of the university is worrying the students and their academic future is now at stake. According to Ayebare, many students had paid money for accommodation and meals.
In her November 23, 2021 letter, Mary Jossy Nakhanda Okwakol, the Executive Director NCHE has directed Vice-Chancellor of the Great Lakes Regional University Dorothy Kabugo to close for a month to enable thorough investigations into the ownership wrangles.
Prof. Okwakol directs the university halt the graduation until outstanding issues are resolved. Saulo Waigolo, the Public Relations Officer NCHE has confirmed the decision, saying that the decision was reached after realizing that the warring factions had set parallel graduation ceremonies for the same students.
