Last weekend, two in- laws died in Bugondo Sub County, Serere district following a domestic brawl. The duo perished after a lengthy domestic conflict between Petua Atipo and her husband, Patrick Otim who separated after repeated violence.

“When soldiers came here, my husband ran away and has never returned. He was scared because we were told that those men are ruthless. I sold part of my cassava to buy wheat flour and other ingredients for making mandazi. That is how I’m trying to help these children but a majority of people don’t have money to enable this business thrive”, she said.
Serere district was given 20 slots for recruitment of teachers but the District Service Commission recruited 55, in addition to staff in other departments. This left the district with a wage shortfall of more than 664 million Shillings.
The operations started on Sunday, forcing several residents to flee their villages due to fear of being arrested. Some residents have not yet returned to their homes even after the operations in their respective areas and landing sites.
Betty Igitu, the Iruko parish woman councilor Egonyu had just sold a bull at the center by the time of his attack. She explained that the situation in the village is tense as residents groan over the killing of the man she describes as the most peaceful and loving Christian.
Evelyn Auma, one of the patients found at women’s ward in Serere HC1V, says she cannot bath inside the shelters provided by the hospital because of dirt. Auma says she opted to take bath in the open since the condition of the bathrooms is terrible.
