Dr Bukenya was declared the winner of the election with 15,190 votes against his main challenger Babirye Jane Zaninka, who polled 6,047 votes. But Babirye, a member of the Opposition National Unity Platform – NUP petitioned the High Court in Mubende accusing Dr Bukenya jointly with the Electoral Commission - EC of violating the principles of a free and fair election and constitutionally guaranteed electoral process.
The two legislators were arrested and detained on charges of murder, attempted murder and aiding and abetting terrorism, stemming from their alleged involvement in the recent killings in the Greater Masaka region which claimed more than 25 lives between July and September this year.

Kabafunzaki was convicted of soliciting a bribe of five million Shillings from Hamid Muhammed, the Chairperson of Aya Group of Companies as an inducement to clear him of sexual abuse allegations that had been lodged against him by his former employee, about four years ago.
