Elly Apenyo, 29-year-old businessman and his colleagues Denis Olwa 40-year-old social worker were arrested on Monday and detained at Lira Central Police Station till Friday afternoon when they were paraded before court.
According to court records, trouble for Owino started on June 2018 when he appeared in a video that went viral on social media pouring water on the naked of an expectant woman in Bar-Opuu Ward, Adekokwok sub-county in the then Lira Municipality.
The suspects: Godwin Achai a 47-year-old and Elvis Omara, 40-year-old all residents of Bazar West, Central Division in Lira City East were arrested after they attacked Sam Bruno Aliga, a Luo News anchor on Wednesday morning as he made his way into the station for the morning news bulletin.
According to prosecution, on 3rd April 2020, while at Corner Kakoge A, in Ojwina Division, Olweny in the company of his bodyguards who are still at large allegedly assaulted Ronald Opio who is deaf and Janan Okot for defying the curfew.
The suspect’s lead counsel, Mike Abwang Otim demanded an explanation from prison authorities, saying the fact that the accused persons were granted bail is not being disputed but rather their whereabouts.
The suspects are Bonny Okello Ocen alias Hassan, Ogong Denis,34 and a brother to the deceased, Kenneth Figo Okello, and Henry Elim Okello alias Odongo Denis, 33 years. Henry is a convict who recently escaped from Arua government prison.
The others are Tony Okello, Lawrence Oguma and Morris Okello. The three were arrested because they were the ones carrying the deceased’s phone.
