In 2009, Kawama Slum Dwellers Association started a Shillings 5.9 billion project to help turn around the lives of 246 slum dwellers in Jinja municipality. Through the project, several slum dwellers in Kimaka/ Mpumudde division in Jinja municipality begun contributing, Shillings 200 weekly and paid another Shillings 120,000 as top up for the survey of a seven acre piece of land in Kimaka to host the housing project.
