The grave yard that consists of 48 graves of some of the polish refugees who died in Nyabyeya village when they settled in Masindi is currently in bad shape. The grave yard is located near St Mary Nyabyeya Catholic Church that was also constructed and left behind by the polish refugees.
Built between1943 and 1945 by the Polish refugees, the church still serves the local community. The church is said to have been renovated by Polish students in 2010. There are 44 graves of polish refugees who died of different ailments in the graveyard near the church compound.
Members of the Maragoli community living in Bunyoro are demanding recognition by Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom and central government. The Maragoli community now living in Kigumba in Kiryandongo district, Ntoma and other parts of Masindi district, are a Kenyan tribe that left their homeland in 1958.
