Nanyondo 27, qualified automatically after finishing fourth in semifinal two at the Olympic stadium in Tokyo. She crossed the finishing line in 4:01:64 behind star athlete Sifan Hassan who won the heat in 4:00.23. Great Britain’s Laura Muir finished second in 4:00.73 while Australia’s Linden Hall finished third in 4:01.37
The 19-year old Chelimo qualified for the finals after finishing fourth in the first round of the competition posting a time which of 13 minutes and 39:07 seconds which is a few seconds below his personal best which stands 13:06:79.
