The construction of the arena started in 2018 with intentions of hosting the 3rd World University Netball Championships that took place in September 2018 at Makerere University
After prematurely hosting the FISU netball championships in 2018 , the Makerere multi task Arena faced setbacks after constructors, UPDF Engineering Brigade had switched to Northern Uganda for an emergency.
