Muzaidi Khemis, the mayor of Central Division, defended the increase, explaining that the new charges were part of a local revenue enhancement plan approved by the council. He also assured that they plan to engage and sensitize drivers about the changes.
Patrick Amacha Dagu, the Project Officer at RICE West Nile, explained that after assessing the needs of Lobule, they quickly initiated a mini-irrigation scheme to support the women. "The women were ready to undertake vegetable farming during the dry season, so we focused on providing water and distributing it to the fields. This allowed them to grow vegetables in high demand in both Lobule and Koboko town," Dagu said.
Julius Ssebugwawo, Chairperson of the district’s Health and Social Services Committee, revealed that the district is operating at only 26% of its approved staffing capacity. To address the shortfall, volunteers have been absorbed to fill the gap caused by the government’s low wage bill.
