The municipal law enforcement team and officers from Lira Central Police Station impounded merchandise from the vendors for safe custody at Lira Municipal Council Store. Some of the vendors were fined Shillings 100,000 for operating illegally on the streets.

Last week, Lira municipality councillors asked the Local Government Ministry to transfer Samuel Ahabwe accusing him of failing to implement council resolutions. Ahabwe, the former Lira Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, was posted to Lira municipality as the town clerk, to replace Assy Abireebe who was facing trial at the Anti-Corruption Court over alleged embezzlement of public funds and abuse of office.
Some of the notable council resolutions which they cited include removal of street vendors from major streets within Lira town including Obote Avenue, Noteber, Oyam, Kitgum among others.
Geoffrey Ogwal, the Municipal Council speaker confirmed receiving two petitions from both local councilors and the executive committee.
Ogwal says he has informed Ahabwe about the intentions and asking to prepare his defense.
