According to the audit report of the Auditor General for the Financial Year 2023/24, Kitgum Municipality scored only 30 percent in solid waste management in the implementation of the Uganda Municipal Support to Infrastructural Development Additional Financing (USMID-AF).
Many boreholes in the area have either malfunctioned or have seen a significant drop in water levels due to the ongoing dry spell, leaving the community struggling for clean water.
In December 2024, the Kitgum District Council approved a plan by the District Executive Committee to identify approximately 1,000 acres of land within the district for resettlement.
