Age Limits Do Not Make Sense - War Veterans 3 1

A section of veterans from the National Resistance Movement NRM party Veterans League have told the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee that Article 102b of the Constitution does not make sense and should be repealed. The League is composed of largely former men and women of National Resistance Army NRA, a rebel army that captured state power in 1986 and later became Uganda Peoples Defence Forces UPDF.

BoU Tasked to Account for Money Paid to External Lawyers bou and crane bank 3

The Parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises COSASE is investigating huge sums of money paid by the central bank to private lawyers. MMAKs Advocates, the law firm representing BoU in the Crane Bank closure case were paid 1.4 billion Shillings with an accrued balance of 15 billion Shillings.

Constitution: 65 Articles Amended in 22 Years 1

At least 65 original Articles of the Uganda Constitution have been amended since it was promulgated 22 years ago. As parliament continues to receive opinions on whether to remove or maintain the presidential age limits in the Constitution, Uganda Radio Network highlights the number of times the Constitution has been amended with far-reaching impact on the politics of the country. Now 22 years after, the Supreme Law of the Land is not the same with 65 of its original Articles already amended, making some legal experts such as Professor Frederick Ssempebwa to call for a total review of the Constitution.

The Department of Justice unsealed the criminal complaints on Monday charging the head of a Hong Kong-based NGO Dr Chi Ping Patrick Ho, 68, of Hong Kong, and the former foreign minister of Senegal Cheikh Gadio, 61, with bribing high-level officials to help a Chinese oil and gas company.
