Karamoja is one of the areas in Uganda with the largest mineral potential. The region has high deposits of limestone, gypsum, iron ore, wolfram, nickel, gold, copper, cobalt, lithium, gemstones, tin, marble and other rare earth elements.
The government has so far injected 101 billion shillings and owns 40 per cent of the shares in Horyal Investment Company Holdings Limited, the entity behind the Sugar factory, while the other shareholders; businesswoman Amina Hirse Moghe and his son Mohamoud Abdi Mohammed own 60 per cent of the shares.
