Police and the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces -UPDF are conducting voluntary and forceful disarmament in the sub-region located in the neighbourhood of the armed communities of Turkana in Kenta and Toposa in South Sudan's Toposa.
Col. Okello Engola who held meetings in Kotido, Kaabong and Moroto with the district leadership and senior security personnel in the region ordered the UPDF to use all possible available means to disarm the Karamojong warriors
Captain Abert Arinaitwe, the 3rd Division spokesman, says the operation looks at illegal guns, cattle thefts and careless shooting among other security concerns.
Col. John Paul Ssonko, the Principal Legal Officer in the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs, says they are committed to ensuring that all complaints against the UPDF especially in Karamoja are handled.
