Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema says that the tanker registration number KBV 279 F/ ZE 3687 Mercedes Benz Actross was carrying flammable liquid from Kenya through Uganda to South Sudan.
Okema said that they registered 100 cases of domestic violence in June alone, of which three were aggravated in nature and resulted in death, 42 defilement cases, seven rape and three murders, among others. Police records show that cases of aggravated domestic violence; defilement, rape and murder are on the rise.
Another UPDF personnel attached to the UPDF 4th Division lamented they have been arresting and sometimes beating suspects defying lawful orders without any protective equipment exposing them and their families to risk.
Ezekiel Emitu, the Aswa River Region Police Commander- RPC, says the latest victim of the attacks is 29-year-old Benedict Okumu. He was hit with a blunt object on August 25th, 2019. He succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the attack at St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor on August 31.
According to the Police in Aswa River Region, a total of 2,228 people applied for the police recruitment exercise that started on July 29, from Nwoya District and ended on August 1 in Agago district. However, only 404 applicants were selected to participate in Oral and Medical tests, the last stage in the recruitment exercise.
