Hours after the travel ban came to effect, there has been the heavy deployment of armed police officers and Uganda People’s Defence Forces soldiers (UPDF) and the erection of roadblocks at various district boundaries across the country.
Maj Flavia Terimulungi, the 5th Infantry Division Spokesperson however told Uganda Radio Network in an interview that the suspects couldn’t appear in court last week because they were still undergoing investigation.

Brig William Bainomugisha, the Fifth Infantry Division Commander confirmed to Uganda Radio Network on Tuesday that the suspects are in their custody and won’t be handed over to South Sudan authorities.
William Komakech, the Kitgum Resident District Commissioner told Uganda Radio Network-URN in an earlier interview that the suspects will be handed over to South Sudan authorities upon the completition of their investigations. According to Komakech, the handover of the suspects is a good gesture towards promoting peace among the two countries and people occupying the international boundaries.
The Aswa River Region police Spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed that the cameras have not been working due to missing configuration of its signals from the antennas that subsequently is sent to the system’s control rooms.

It’s up to you to prosecute them or let them go free,” said Komakech.
Two of the suspects were arrested from Palabek Ogili sub-county in Lamwo district armed with two guns and grenades while 13 were apprehended in Orom sub-county Sub-county in Kitgum district armed with five guns.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson says for the first time, the new year celebration in Acholi sub-region went on peacefully without crimes like murder, rape, and grave assault among others reported to the police.
The suspects, all residents of Ikotos County in South Sudan’s Eastern Equatorial State were arrested by Uganda People’s Defence Forces-UPDF soldiers on December 20, from Okuti parish in Orom Sub County
His remarks come just two days after the US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo issued a statement indicating that the US is closely paying attention to the actions of some individuals seeking to impede the democratic processes in Uganda ahead of the 2021 general elections.
