The Diocesan Bishop of the Diocese of Kitgum the Rt. Rev. Wilson Kitara says with the land issues solved, the Church will continue to engage fruitfully with the Government of Uganda and other stakeholders on St. Janani Luwum Memorial and Pilgrimage site development.
Delivering his sermon to Christians at St. Paul Church of Uganda in Wii-gweng village, Bishop Ogwal said he felt hesitant to accept the change of plan. He disclosed to Christians that he felt that the prayers should have taken place at Namirembe Cathedral, the provincial cathedral of the Church of Uganda after being moved from the martyrs’ home village in Wii-gweng.
The memorial prayer was organized by the local organizing committee in Kitgum District and was presided over by the former Northern Uganda Diocese Bishops, Rt. Rev Nelson Onono-onweng and Benoni Ogwal Abwang. It attracted young and old Christians from within and outside Kitgum district.
Langa, a resident of Lamit Kapim Cell in Pager Division, Kitgum District and believed to be the oldest person alive in Acholi sub-region was born into a Pagan family around 1907. She turned to Christianity in 1948 and now recounts how hesitant she was to follow Christianity until a young Janan Luwum wowed her with the Gospel.

Jackson Omona, the Kitgum LCV Chairperson and also the central organizing committee chairperson for the event says they are ready to host the celebration since most of the basic facilities have been put in place.
According to the widow, Bishop Ojwang had been hospitalized for over a week with high blood pressure and diabetes. He was transferred to Kiruddu General Hospital from Gulu Regional Referral Hospital when his health condition worsened.
Rev Canon Robinson Oginga Odinga, the Kitgum Town Parish Vicar who is overseeing the church construction says President Museveni in March last year made commitments to financially support construction of the church.
According to Rev Odinga, the president pledged iron sheets, cements and angle bars but a year later, only 560 iron sheets were delivered through the Kitgum Municipality legislator Beatrice Anywar.
