Their secretary Paddy Twesigomwe said that field workers who pluck tea leaves earn 5700 shillings daily working for 22 days which makes only 125,400 shillings a month and they only want it increased to 10,000 shillings per day.
Tumwijukye says that since April 2010 when Bushenyi District Local Government entered an agreement with PIBID outlining a number of objectives and responsibilities for both Parties, the district has not benefited from the project. He notes that many articles in the Memorandum of Understanding have been breached to the disadvantage of the Bushenyi District Local Government.
Recently the municipal authorities issued a directive that requires all food vendors undergo health screening four times every year. The vendors are required to pay shillings 10,000 shillings for every round of screening.
