According to Godfrey Kimbugwe, the Rakai District Community Development Officer-CDO, various communities across the district especially in hard-to-reach communities such as Kacheera, Kyarulangira, Ntantamuki town council, are still ignorant about the program.
Joseph Mugumya, the Fisheries Officer In-charge of Kooki County, says the campaign
comes at the time the district is struggling to restock Lake Kijanebarola with
different fish species mainly the Nile tilapia.
Judith Nabisere, one of the affected residents, says that the closure of the landing site has worsened the misery of her life. She explains that she used to cook food and her clients were mainly fishermen but most of them relocated to other landing sites.
They say that families are breaking up and children neglected as parents remain incapable of taking care of them in the absence of compensation for their land and other properties. Disputes are escalating out of mistrust, as couples suspect each other of having received the money behind the others back.

Patrick Mande, another affected resident, says he plans to relocate to another village to access clean and safe water. He appealed to the government to intervene by setting up boreholes or taps in the affected communities to help the residents.
Charles Rwendiire, one of the elders in the affected village says that the lake first drained in a space measuring about two football fields before it dried up, and as a result, the fish remained on the muddy surface, from where the fishermen and residents have been picking it since Sunday.

The Kijonjo Bridge over River Naludugavu connects Kabira Sub-county to Kasasa Sub-county and Kyotera town council in Rakai. The latest victim\'s body was discovered on Tuesday, January 13, 2015.
Despite large Kaolin deposits, Kooki County in Rakai district is yet to see any prospecting. Several areas in Kooki where confirmed to have kaolin deposits. In 2006, a team of geologists confirmed discovery of Kaolin deposits in Ddwaniro and Lwamagwa Sub County.
Fishing activities have been suspended at several landing sites in Rakai due to strong winds on Lake Victoria. The most affected landing sites are Kasensero and Nangoma. Currently, Lake Victoria is experiencing strong winds.
Major livestock markets in Rakai District may remain closed during the Christmas and New Year festive period if the quarantine imposed on them due to the presence of foot and mouth disease is not lifted.
