UBOS is undertaking the census mapping of all places in the country which includes the documentation of all areas from the smallest unit and marking of all land borders from villages to district levels.
State Minister for Agriculture, Fred Kyakulaga, says that even the figure of 4,000 could be much higher than the actual number of functional tractors, which he estimates at 2,500, while many were reportedly smuggled out of the country.
Construction of the plant followed a bilateral agreement Uganda entered with Tanzania in 2015. However, implementation of the project started in 2017 making it the first cross-border Infrastructure project undertaken by Uganda and Tanzania.
